The Difference Between A Community And A Neighborhood

June 19, 2017 By SummerLakeAdmin

Neighborhood home people social network meet inside a circle ofFor most families, finding a good neighborhood is very important. But not all neighborhoods – even those that are considered nice – have great communities. This is an important factor that is easy to overlook when considering a new home.

Here are some reasons why you should look for a community when home-shopping and how Summer Lake offers that to its residents.

The Real Difference Between A Community and Neighborhood

To us, a neighborhood is more like a location. When you’re looking at neighborhoods to move to, you’re often looking at some of the pros and cons of the location you’ll be living in, such as the area’s crime rate, the school district, how long your commute to work is and whether there are nearby amenities, such as grocery stores, banks, gas stations, restaurants and the like.

A community is more about the people that live in that neighborhood and the relationship that they have to the neighborhood and to each other.

We believe that a strong sense of community is extremely important – it makes life that much better. It’s also why we strive to strengthen our community here at Summer Lake.

What Makes Us Such a Strong Community?

You might be wondering, what exactly makes Summer Lake such a strong community? The following are just a few examples of how our residents are involved in the neighborhood and with each other in order to build a stronger community.

Our Community Amenities

The following are some of the amenities offered to our residents in order to provide a chance to exercise and socialize with one another:

Athletic courts

One of the most effective ways our residents get to know one another is by engaging in various sports. We have a full basketball court, tennis court and volleyball court that are regularly used by both kids and adults throughout the neighborhood.

Biking and jogging trails

Residents are able to bike or jog regularly and often make friendly connections with like-minded neighbors using our biking and jogging trails.

Children’s play areas

It’s important that children make friends with other kids in the neighborhood, which is why we’ve put so much effort into adding different children’s play areas throughout our neighborhood. Some of these areas include playgrounds and a children’s splash park. Additionally, this is a great way for parents to meet one another and connect as well.

Pool features

Summer Lake pool
Everybody loves going swimming in the summer, and our residents can do this without ever leaving the neighborhood. Our residents love the competition-sized swimming pool and diving well, as well as the nearby kiddie pool.

The clubhouse

The clubhouse here at Summer Lake isn’t just an empty lobby like many other places. It’s an area that’s actually put to great use by residents. Many of our residents meet here regularly to socialize.

For example, we hold an annual Super Bowl party in the clubhouse as well as monthly family movie nights. Other social events held in the clubhouse include wine socials and scrapbooking weekends.

Our Annual Community Events

In addition to the many community amenities that we offer to our residents, we also promote our community through various events all year long. The following are just a few of the community events that our residents get to enjoy:

Fall Festival

Residents get together every year for our spectacular Fall Festival, which is celebrated with live music, pumpkin decorating, moon bounce fun for the kids, scarecrow contests, a chili cook-off and more.

Pool Opening Parade

We throw a pool opening parade every Memorial Day weekend at our aquatics center, where we hold games and activities for kids all day long that Monday.

Friday Cheers

Friday Cheers is actually a weekly event that we hold throughout the summer. Every Friday during the summer, residents gather at the pool to go swimming, enjoy delicious food from food trucks, play games, watch movies and more.

Kindergarten Social

We throw an ice cream social every year for new Kindergarten students so they can make some friends before their first day of school, thereby making them less nervous for the big day!

Summer Lake Party for Adults

Every once in awhile, we’ll throw a little get-together for the adults in our community, giving them a chance to socialize without the kids around. We’ll organize a party with live music, dancing and beer!

As you can see, we take great pride in the fact that we don’t just offer a great neighborhood to live in, but a fantastic community to belong to as well.
